Dog who can't see taken for walks by guide cat, Pwditat and Terfel have become firm friends after the cat began acting as a guide for the blind dog. Terfel was diagnosed with cataracts and confined to his basket to stop him bumping into things. But after owner Judy Godfrey-Brown let a stray cat into her home the dog has been given a new lease of life. Rather than fighting like cats and dogs, the cat softly approached Terfel and seemed to know that he could not see. The cat led the blind dog out of his basket and out into the garden. 'Pwditat immediately seemed to know that Terfel is blind through some sort of sixth sense that animals have. 'She uses her paws to help guide him around the house and in the garden. 'They are glued to each other and even sleep together now.' <3 Source - Daily Mail 28/12/12 Powered by socialditto 1,000+ likes · 176 comments

These are the last moments of a bull named 'Madness'. He suffered a broken leg yesterday at the Myrtleford Golden Spurs Rodeo in Victoria, while desperately trying to free himself of a rider and a 'bucking' strap that was pulled tightly around his sensitive organs. Rodeo proponents claim that bulls 'love to buck', but such was his distress that even with a bone protruding an inch outside his knee, he continued to thrash while the strap remained fastened. This sickening spectacle unfolded in front of children - and Animals Australia investigators (read more: www.bit.ly/V5tIiG) 'Madness' was the lastest casualty of a brutal 'sport' that torments and abuses animals in the name of 'entertainment'. Anahareo and the beavers. Gertrude Bernard was born in Mattawa, Ontario to a Mohawk Iroquois family on June 1906. Gertrude married Grey Owl, an English trapper. One day Grey Owl found a mother beaver in one of his traps and two tiny beavers. His wife urged him to take them home and during the course of raising them he realized he would never hunt animals again. "Their almost childlike intimacies and murmurings of affection, their rollicking good fellowship not only with each other but ourselves, their keen awareness, their air of knowing what it was all about. They seemed like little folk from some other planet, whose language we could not quite understand. To kill such creatures seemed monstrous. I would do no more of it" "Pilgrims of the Wild" by Grey Owl Powered by socialditto 42 likes · 3 comments

The Bloody Dairy Industry73 days ago
VEAL = DAIRY This is a male calf stolen from his mother after birth. This newborn can barely stand on his wobbly knees yet people have already planned the day of his execution. As his mother, who has a maternal instinct equivalent to that of a human mother, is crying over him, he is all alone on an auction floor to be sold to veal producers. And how much is his one and only life - that his mother would guard with her own - worth? A couple of dollars. HOW IS VEAL = DAIRY? Because the veal industry is a "by-product" of the dairy industry; that is, the veal industry exists because the dairy industry exists. Just like us, cows are mammals, and the only way they can lactate is if they give birth. To ensure cows lactate milk uninterruptedly, the dairy industry uses cows as baby-making machines by forcibly and repeatedly impregnating them on "rape racks." Approximately, half of the babies born are male. Since male calves do not lactate, the dairy industry regards them as useless so whether it is a factory dairy farm or an "organic" dairy farm, all male calves (and many female calves considered "excess") are killed. Basically, the dairy industry wants the milk but they don't want the babies that come with the milk. Another standard practice within the dairy industry is to steal all calves (male & female) from their mothers to ensure they have no access to their mothers' milk. Here is a 22-second video that shows babies being stolen from their mothers: http://tinyurl.com/c3j8w47 By not funding the dairy industry and opting for delicious dairy alternatives, you will no longer be funding the veal industry, will no longer be breaking the family unit of others and will be saving countless babies from being murdered. This photo is from the annual cove dolphin slaughter in Taiji, Japan. This is not a call to boycott Japan. That will not help dolphins and most citizens in Japan who know about what happens in the cove, are against it. What this post is for, is a call to boycott all facilities that exploit and enslave marine species for entertainment or display purposes. What happens in the cove is an integral and direct part of that industry. When you buy tickets at places like Sea World, this is part of what you're paying for. Make the connection and don't buy their brutal slaughter or slavery. Spread this message far and wide. Support groups like Sea Shepherd's Cove Guardians and endeavors like the "Cove" movie. Tell everyone who will listen that this is what their ticket to Sea World and other ocean aquarium circuses pays for. What else can be done? You can sign the many petitions against this senseless slaughter, such as the official "Cove" movie petition here:http://www.takepart.com/actions/cove-help-save-japans-dolphins Also, even more helpful, please do an internet search to find the Japanese embassy in your nation and write them a strong, professionally worded letter or phone them. Do not threaten them, do not curse at them. Tell them how you feel about what is happening to dolphins in Taiji's cove. If you don't yet know about this issue, or need a better way to explain it to others, please send them here:http://thecovemovie.com/home.htm to the "Cove" movie website. The movie can even be downloaded for free. Please stand up for our friends, the dolphins:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8JC_239vnc Powered by socialditto 70 likes · 17 comments

Meet Billy! Saved from a puppy mill in Carolina, this sweet dog had a terrible start in life, but thanks to some very compassionate people, he is now safe and loved. Please help support these wonderful people and organizations that do such worthy work, and do not buy animals in shops, markets, or online (which supports puppy mills) adopt shelter animals. Support shelters, animal welfare organizations, and stores that only supply shelter animals.

The gruesome details of what Pakistan did to Australian sheep has been revealed. At least 10,000 have been buried alive, stabbed and clubbed to death. Another 10,000+ are awaiting a vicious murder. And the Australian Government still think there is nothing wrong with Live Export. Another huge reason why the live export of animals for slaughter overseas is so very wrong! If this was a shipment of dogs or cats, how would we react? These sheep have the same capacity, as any cat or dog, to feel pain and fear, endure the same type of suffering when subjected to cruel conditions. These animals, whether we eat meat or not, deserve the same respect we afford native animals, entertainment and companion animals. No living, feeling creature should be treated with such barbarism in our so-called civillized, modern world.
Find out more about the above situation, and how YOU can help put an end to this inhumane treatment of these poor, gentle animals here - http://www.animalsaustralia.org/features/pakistan-live-export-disaster.php

The life of a lion in the canned hunting industry: A few days after the lion is born it is taken from its mother, this is highly destressing for the cubs and the mother. The mother is taken away and made pregnant again, her sole purpose is to be a breeding machine for the trophy hunting outfitter. She spends her whole life giving birth and having her cubs ripped away from her, and she never gets the chance to be a mother. Once her body is useless and can no longer have cubs she is either offered to be shot for a bargain price or just thrown in for free as part of another hunt. When the cub is taken from its mother it is sent to a petting zoo or a volunteer project, where tourists pay to interact with the cubs. This is very distressing for the cubs who have no means of getting away, cats sleep a lot and cubs especially, but they cannot do this because of been constantly picked up for photographs. Volunteers pay thousands of dollars to work on projects that promise that they will be one day released. Volunteers do not care to do any research and realise that any hand raised lion in South Africa cannot be released. These volunteers believe they are doing a good thing but they are just filling the pockets of these murderers and keeping this sick industry alive. Once the lion is no longer a cub it is sent back to the trophy hunting farm, where it can grow into a suitable trophy for a tourist to shoot. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=352193494860952&set=a.315784881835147.72724.225598740853762&type=3&theater When it comes time for the lion to be shot, it is released into the larger enclosure. The killers drive around the enclosure looking for the tame, hand raised lion. Meat is often hung out and they wait for the lion to start eating and then open fire as it eats. I have seen many videos of these hunts and they are shocking, any person who takes part in one of these hunts is a disgrace to the human race. Often the tame lion will be laid undreneath a tree and as it sees the people approach it just glances over and glances away, as it does not see people as a threat. The cowards open fire and take pleasure in watching the animal roll around the floor in agony, then watch the life drain out of its body. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.357811990965769.83230.225598740853762&type=1 The aftermath is shocking as they parade the dead lion for ridiculous photos as they stand over the lifeless corpse of the tame, hand raised lion. They then return home to their countries to tell tales of how they killed a big bad dangerous man eating lion (they never mention they killed a tame, bottle fed lion inside an enclosure). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPMZ9mRcn50 Trophy hunting companies have now found another way to profit from the lions they kill, they are now starting to sell the bones to the Asian medicine market. This is the same market that has wiped many species off the face of the planet and is the biggest threat to tigers and rhino today, the scariest thing is that the South African government are allowing them to do this legally. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVPxfYFj7Yg Illegal rhino poaching has risen 3000+% in the past five years and this could happen to lions as well, we are starting to the the exact same patterns with lions as what happened to rhinos, but the SA government do not appear to care. South Africa are even allowing tigers to be shot inside enclosures and their bones sent to Asia. http://www.lionaid.org/blog/category/canned-lions Avaaz recently started an advertising campaign in airports calling for president Zuma to put an end to the sick lion bone trade. It took around one week for president Zuma to order the posters be pulled down. Avaaz have started an online petition which already has over 700,000 signatures calling for an end to the lion bone trade. http://www.avaaz.org/en/1_million_to_ban_the_lion_trade_fbb/ Powered by socialditto 10 likes · 5 comments
The "canned lion hunt industry" is the equivalent to the puppy mill industry but with people feeling "proud" that they have mercilessly slaughtered a majestic animal that has suffered from birth to death. Who is the wild beast, the ruthless beast, here? It certainly is NOT the lion! Their pride is killing, bestows shame on humanity...

The company that allowed one of their clients to shoot and kill Leonardo (an endangered electronically collared lion that was part of a conservation project) are once again been brought under question, this time over the killing of a critically endangered black rhino. http://mg.co.za/article/2012-06-28-questions-over-namibian-rhino-hunt/ Other than Leonardo (pictured below), in the last two years trophy hunters/thrill killers have killed many collared lions, destroying many years of conservation work. Some of the other collared lions killed have been Grandmother, Lez and Big Boy. Leonardo was also the last adult male in the whole Hoanib & Hoaruseb region. In the end the whole pride were wiped out by humans in one year (trophy hunting and poisoning). The reading of his collar showed he was shot in a cave at around 4am, he was likely sleeping. It is also illegal to hunt at this time in Namibia but what is legal and what is not legal does not really matter any more in the trophy hunting industry, it is all immorally wrong. Tourists kill around 1000 lions each year in Africa and are driving them closer and closer to extinction, there is estimated to be only 2000 male lions left on the whole African continent. There are also around 160 lion hunting farms in South Africa with around 6000 lions where tourists pay to shoot tame hand raised lions in enclosures. You can read here how his whole pride were wiped out in a single year: http://www.wildlifeextra.com/go/news/desert-lions.html#cr Here is the link to the website of the desert lion conservation project. つぶやきかさこ kasakoblog.exblog.jp : The blogger writes about one of the captains for Nyanderguard, Akira Honda. Akira Honda used to live in Nagoya until the earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disaster. He became concerned about the animals that had survived the disasters. When he found out that without any help, cats only had about a 10% chance to survive, he quit his job, moved from Nagoya to Ishinomaki, Miyagi. It was the start of Nyanderguard and their efforts to save animals in Fukushima. They have been working ever since to help the animals. *Our deepest respect to Akira Honda for his conviction to save the animals of Fukushima. つぶやきかさこ kasakoblog.exblog.jp : Der Bloger schreibt über einen der Kapitäne von Nyanderguard, Akira Honda. My Fukushima cattle story continued: While the Radiation Researchers were starting their studies and running their Radiation Research Farm, all financed by the Government of Japan; killing pens were being put into place to capture more of the cattle that had been freed by their owners. When some people tried to tell the public about these killing pens, OTHER people told the public that the stories were made up. They said that the people saying that the cattle were being killed in the pens were EXAGGERATING and making it all up. Those pens were to "hold" the cattle not to kill them. However, the initial claims about the pens being set up to kill the cattle were correct. The confusion generated by the other people made people confused as to what to believe. And, a chance to alert the public was lost. The pens were set up to let cattle enter but not leave. The pens had delicious food and water for the cattle, BUT, once the food was gone, no one replaced the food or water for the cattle. There was no shelter for the cattle, if it rained, snowed, or was excessively HOT, the cattle had no where they could go to get out of the elements. Some, already weakened by starvation, died. Others became sick exposed to the snow, rain, or heat and then died. The very young died first. There mothers could not make milk after the food was gone and every piece of vegetation had been eaten, regardless of whether it would make the cow sick or not. One of the cruelest photos shows the cattle, thirsty and hungry. Their killing pen was set up next to a pond of water that the cattle could not reach to get a drink. They were all crowded on that side of the fence, looking at the water they could not have. Some animal feeders started to bring the cattle food to eat and water to drink. They would keep doing this until the cattle finally were killed by the officials that had finally gotten around to killing them. There were people that called to complain that the cattle in the pens were being treated terribly and had no food or water. The officials ASSURED those people that the cattle were being cared for. Some people called to complain that the cattle in the pens were injured, that they had gaping wounds on their sides and why were they not being helped. Again, the officials assured them that the cattle were being helped. Then, the cattle would disappear. Killed. This practice continues. The cattle that are lured into the pens are diminishing. The Government of Japan is winning the war to eliminate the "trash" that are the Fukushima cattle. Powered by socialditto 4 likes · 1 comments

Virtually all of them have been animal-tested at various stages of their development. Long before they appear on the shelves of your local supermarket, these products have gone through a long and complex testing process that leaves millions of animals mutilated, burned, poisoned and gassed in outmoded and unnecessary tests. The manufacturers of cosmetics and household products claim that they perform tests on animals to ensure the safety of their products under customary use or possible abuse when in reality it is to limit the company's liability to its customers in case of a lawsuit. It is believed that the law requires animal testing on cosmetics. This is untrue. Animal testing on cosmetics is not required by the federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. However, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does urge companies to conduct whatever toxicological tests are appropriate to substantiate the safety of their products. As a result, millions of rabbits and other animals continue to be the innocent victims of painful eye and skin irritancy tests. (See Animal Tests.) Toxic products that have been tested on animals such as permanent wave solutions, oven cleaners, soaps and detergents are regularly introduced into the marketplace. That's because no amount of animal testing can change the fact that many of these products are harmful if ingested or used in a way not intended by the manufacturer. Animal testing merely determines the level of toxicity. Despite the fact that they have been animal-tested, these products are no less deadly if a person eats or drinks them accidentally. Cosmetics and personal care products that are also intended to treat or prevent disease, or affect the structure or functions of the human body such as antiperspirants and fluoride toothpaste are considered drugs. These products must comply with the drug requirements of the FDA. Animals are almost always utilized as the test models. Elephants that ''work'' in Thailand and other tourist destinations have to go through a ritual called phajaan, or “crush”. It begins with the baby elephants (usually three to four years old) being taken from their mothers and placed in a small, wooden pen. To get them securely in the pen, these babies are beaten with bamboo, sticks with nails attached to the tip and bull hooks. Once in place, the crush lasts for roughly a week. During this time, they are beaten, bludgeoned, have hooks attached to their sensitive ears, and are deprived of food and water as well as sleep, all in the name of breaking ties with their mothers and becoming domesticated. While in the crush, through the infliction of pain, they learn how to accept riders, do circus tricks and paint. This is designed to break the animal's spirit which it certainly achieves, often taking its sanity too. Used for centuries to domesticate wild elephants, this torture training method is still accepted as the only viable training method for elephant handlers and is used in almost every elephant attraction in Thailand. And, once they have their souls stomped out, they are simply vessels entertaining people. They are chained. They don’t eat enough. Like humans, elephants have the capability to form relationships and have emotions. But, not the elephants working for the tourists. People who visit Thailand — and other countries with elephant tourism — don’t realize the damage they cause these elephants when they support trekking camps, go to circuses or buy the paintings done by these creatures. Without knowing, they send a clear message to the elephant tourism industry that shows they support the torture these animals go through early in their life, as well as the horrific conditions they live in as cogs in the tourism wheel. Please never support this horrible practice, never ride an elephant.
